West Harbour School operates an enrolment zone. Therefore parents who live within the school zone (identified below) may start a child at West Harbour School without applying for a place. The school will advertise for out-of-zone spaces when spaces are available.
We always like to meet new families to the school and – at the time of enquiry or enrolment – a member of our Senior Leadership will meet with you to answer any questions you may have, to learn about your children and to give you the opportunity to get to know us.
When enrolling your child, please bring the following documentation:
- Child’s birth certificate or passport
- Copy of your child’s immunisation record
- If you are not a NZ citizen you will need to bring your child’s passport containing their residency or student visa.
- Proof of address – power or water bill, rates account, bank statement etc.
All required forms will be given to you to fill in. For new entrants we are able to offer two morning visits before they start at our school. This enables them to meet their teacher and their new classmates. Pre-enrolments are welcome and recommended as they assist with our future planning. For children who are being enrolled from another school, we carry out an assessment in Literacy and Mathematics to ensure that they are placed into the best class for their abilities.
Enrolment Scheme
Out of Zone Enrolments
Each year the Board will determine the number of places, if any, which are likely to be available, including the special programme, in the following year for the enrolment of students who live outside the home zone. If there are places, the Board will publish this information by notice in a daily or community newspaper circulating in the area served by the school. The notice will indicate how applications are to be made and will specify a date by which all applications must be received.
Applications for enrolment will be processed in the following order of priority:
First Priority: | will be given to applications who are seeking enrolment in the special programme approved by the Secretary. Note that a maximum of 80 (eighty) students applies to the special programme. |
Second Priority: | will be given to applicants who are siblings of current students. |
Third Priority: | will be given to applicants who are siblings of former students. |
Fourth Priority: | will be given to applicants who are children of former students. |
Fifth Priority: | will be given to applicants who are either a child of an employee of the Board of the school or a child of a member of the Board of the school. |
Sixth Priority: | will be given to all other applicants |
If there are more applicants in the second, third, fourth, fifth or sixth priority groups than there are places available, selection within the priority group will be by a ballot conducted in accordance with instructions issued by the Secretary under Section 11G(1) of the Education Act 1989.
Parents will be informed of the date of any ballot by notice in a daily or community newspaper circulating in the area served by the school.
Applicants seeking second or third priority status may be required to give proof of a sibling relationship.

Out of Zone Enrolment 2025
The board invites applications from parents who wish to enrol their children at West Harbour School for next year.
Enrolment at the school is governed by an enrolment scheme, details of which are available from the school office. An enrolment form can be completed via the school website (below):
The deadline for receipt of applications for out-of-zone places is 15 October 2024. Parents of students who live within the home zone should also apply by this date to assist the school to plan appropriately for next year. The board has determined that 10 places are likely to be available for out-of-zone students next year. The exact number of places will depend on the number of applications received from students who live within the school’s home zone. If the number of out-of-zone applications exceeds the number of places available, students
will be selected by ballot. If a ballot is required it will be held on 23 October 2024. Parents will be informed of the outcome of the ballot within three school days of the ballot being held.
